"The Great I Am"

Words and music Copyright ©, June 16, 2008 by Richard Herndon

The Great I Am

First verse

He came and walked upon this earth
To show us all a better way
How to be, the type of men, we should be, we should be
With every step he took on earth, brought hope, he healed, blind men could see
But the kings, the priest, the pharaohs, could not believe, could not see
He is, ohh He is, the Great I am.

(chorus)

He said I am the one that was spoke of to you
So long ago who would come here in truth
To bear the sins of all of the men if you believe, if you'll believe
I Am, oh I am.

Second verse

People came from everywhere as he taught Gods will with authority
But only through free will, can one receive, can one believe
It's not wealth or fame that brings us to shame
But the hate, the greed, that shuts out his Name
How can we be so blind, not see or believe
He is, ohh He is, the Great I am.

(chorus)

He said I am the one that was spoke of to you
So long ago who would come here in truth
To bear the sins of all of the men if you believe, if you'll believe
I Am, oh I am.

Final verse

So why not take a little time, to lend a hand
To those who may not quite, understand, what it means, what it meant
He gave his life on Calvary
So all of men might one day be set free and stand with Him
Before the throne, then we'll know
He is, ohhh He is, the Great I am.

(chorus)
add the last line at the end

He said I am the one that was spoke of to you
So long ago who would come here in truth
To bear the sins of all of the men if you believe, if you'll believe
I Am, oh I am.
And I believe, Christ is I Am.

"Shifting Sands"

Words and music Copyright ©, August 5, 2008 by Richard Herndon

Shifting Sands

First verse

The prodigal son walks on shifting sands
Prodigal son walks on shifting sands
Blown by the winds that were charged by foolish pride
He took the love of a father's heart
And left one day to live a different way
Where night times are made to shine as day

(chorus)

And in a desperate prayer from a fathers heart
Through his tear filled eyes to the lord above he cry's
Stop this young mans foolish pride
The father cries
The father cries

Second verse

This young mans heart was trapped in the winds
Where the night time rules are made by money that's spent
On the wine and the lies
It doesn't take long to lose your control
When the wine hides your eyes from the truth in the lies
And soon, He'll find a beggars life
On shifting sands oh no
On shifting sands

(chorus)

And in a desperate prayer from a fathers heart
Through his tear filled eyes to the lord above he cry's
Stop my young son's foolish pride
The father cries
The father cries

Last verse

This young man begged and the streets gave no hope
Broken and torn he has nothing to show
But the tides from the wine
But everyone knows that the lord answers prayer
And this young man stopped and knelt down in prayer
To the lord from a broken heart made of shifting sands
Oh shifting sands oh no there gona bring you down for sure
For sure

(Last chorus)

The father stands looking down the road
He sees a beggar walking closer and slow
Tears fill his eyes as he recognized his son from shifting sands
Oh yea, home from shifting sands
And in a loving prayer from a fathers heart
Through his tear filled eyes to the lord above he cries
You stopped this young son's foolish pride
I'll hold him close you spared his life
The father cries I thank you lord the father cries

"Which Claim"

Words and music Copyright ©, October 12, 2008 by Richard Herndon

Which Claim

First verse

Two men walk along... separate paths to the cross
One dressed in silken robes while the other wears sackcloth and ash.
Step by step they make their claim... one for Christ... and one for state
But which claim, will lead to the cross, and which one to hells gate

Second verse

One man walks among the crowds and teaches the love of Christ,
and with out stretched hands in the name of Christ,
heals the lame, the blind and sick
The other man sits at a table for one and the crowds stand in line
He's trying to be fair but the state doesn't care as people pay him taxes on their land
And step by step they make their claim, one for Christ, one for state.
But, which claim will lead to the cross and which one to hells gate

Third verse

Then one day these two men are walking on the same road to the Fathers House
The priestly man in his silken robes strolls along so tall and proud.
He pushes through the crowds and now they stand around to listen to what he says...
with a boastful pride and a great big smile he begins to tell his tale
Christ listens close but already knows what the priest is all about
He listens anyway at the story that is told and this is what he Heard,

(PRIEST: SPOKEN)

Lord, I come to you to say thanks for not making me like all the rest.
Why I can heal the sick and make the blind to see and the lame can walk again.
Why, I have preached your word throughout the land,
and the people are glad to see me!
When I heal someone they all shout with glee for the power I have in me.
And at least, I am not like the publican standing there behind me!!!!

And Christ says...

(CHRIST: SPOKEN)

OOOHHHHHH REALLY!!!!
And you are whooo???

(PRIEST: SPOKEN)

Why I'm the priest!

(CHRIST: SPOKEN)

You are not my priest!!!
I don't know you and never knew you. Leave me.

Fourth part

The publican man knows all he's done and humbly waits his turn
He's next in line as the Priest is carried out and thrown down to hells gate
And the publican says...

(PUBLICAN: SPOKEN)

oh no !!!
This can't be good !!!!!

Fifth part

His name is called and he walks toward the Lord with tears in his eyes
And the glow around Christ was a blinding light as the publican spoke these words...

(PUBLICAN: SPOKEN)

Lord I bow before you to ashamed to look at you.
I'm not sure I did all I could Do for you and the people.
I prayed in private for the people of the land and asked the state to show them mercy.
I cut taxes where I could and showed fairness to all and I took nothing for myself.
I tried to follow your words and I know I failed, But it never stopped me from Trying !!
I love you Lord, Please forgive me.

Sixth part

With those final words he rose up turned and started to walk away.
And as he reached the door he felt the hand of the lord on his shoulder and Heard Christ say...

(CHRIST: SPOKEN)

Friend, Your going the wrong way.
Welcome home, thou good and faithful Servant.
Come walk with me,
Today your trials have ended.

Last part

Step by step they made their claim one for Christ and one for state.
But now we know which one lead to the cross and which one to hells gate.

"Could This Be True"

Could This Be True

First verse

How could it be from long ago,
One child born could save the world
Are the stories really true, or simply myths
Or just stories, stories of old

Born one night by heaven's light
That led the wise men to His side
To bear the witness of His birth
Could this be true

His wisdom seen at a very young age
By teachers from the prophets ways
Not Recognizing he who sat with them
Could this be true, Emmanuel had come to them?

Chorus

Emmanuel was His name
God's own Son had come to claim
The souls of men who would receive His love and grace,
Could this be true or just stories of old?

Second verse

Twelve good men were chose by Him
To learn God's will and bring to all
Heaven's holy word of love and grace.
Could this be true that he was

Freely healing those who came
With broken hearts and wounded frames
They took God's word into their hearts and minds.
Could this be true then

He taught God's word to everyone
Who would take the time to come to Him
Searching for God's peace to flow through them,
Could this be true, Emmanuel will set them free

Chorus

Emmanuel was His name
God's own Son had come to claim
The souls of men who would receive His love and grace
Could this be true or just stories of old?

Third verse

Prophecy spoke long ago
Of one to come filled with the Holy Ghost
Soon to be rejected, by His own
Could this be true, the Lamb of God to die for you

Then they came to crucify
The one called Christ blamed by their lies
Rejecting God's own Son, would be their shame.
Could this be true that he was

Beaten, shamed by jealous men
God's own Son would bear their sins
For three long days He walked in hell's own wake
To break the binds, for man, sins wages He paid

Chorus

Emmanuel was His name
He broke the binds of Satan's chains
After three long days the price for man had all been paid
And now He sits at the right hand of the throne
And now He sits at the right hand of the throne

(Sing Softly)

The Son of God has died for you
He gave His life to pay the price that's due
to bring us to the Father's house, you see
And this is true, Emmanuel's waiting for you
He's waiting there for you
Emmanuel's waiting there for you

"Welcome to God's House"

Words Copyright ©, 2010 by Richard Herndon

Some weeks before Ric went into the hospital for the last time, he began writing a song for the Church. The intent was to signal the end of the Passing the Peace. The song is based on "Welcome to My World" by Eddie Arnold.

Ric called me on the phone and, as we were out, he left a message. He never did have the opportunity to get back with me. This video is a copy of the message left on our house phone with a picture of him on the day that he married Susie.
